Pack your Pushies
If you’re venturing down to the South East be sure to pack your pushies and take advantage of some of the most spectacular cycle paths in the state.
Esperance is home to around 150km of cycleways, most with enviable coastal views, from pavement to dirt the region is the perfect place to show your pedal power.
Take a ride along the Great Ocean Drive and be rewarded with panoramic views of Esperance’s iconic white sand and turquoise waters – you may even be treated to some whales or dolphins frolicking in the waves! You can stop at any point on your journey to take a dip in one of the many amazing beaches along the ride.
At Twilight Beach the path veers into the bushlands, where the landscape changes from scrublands to Tuart groves. The next stop on your way is the (not so) Pink Lake – be sure to read some of the signage and learn about the amazing biodiversity the lake is home to. Once back in town complete your trip and reward yourself with a stop at a local café.
For the more adventurous, give the Esperance Mountain Bike Track (lovingly referred to as ‘The Piggery’ by locals) a go. Located 14km north of town, the trail weaves its way through sandplains and planted trees with stunning wildflowers throughout the Spring. The track is suitable for all ability levels with a dedicated ‘family’ section for less experienced riders.
