Two 4WDs driving through the outback

Want to get out in your 4WD this weekend and need some inspiration on where to go? Here’s our Top 10 tracks / beaches to try out – depending on your skills and experience of course! And all less than 200km from Perth. Engines on, let’s go!

Mundaring power line track

Distance from Perth: 40km East

The track is mainly clay and rock which is rutted, steep, and can be very dangerous when wet. If you have never been off road before, probably not a good one to start on. Mundaring power line track is not for the faint hearted!

Julimar State Forest

Distance from Perth: Approx 90km North East.

Ideal for a day trip (or half a day even) and is great if you enjoy a drive in the bush with just a couple of challenges.

Dwellingup, Lane Poole Reserve

Distance from Perth: 126km South.

Lane Poole Reserve covers an area over 50,000 hectares and there’s a great 69 km long 4WD track from Dwellingup to Waroona, mainly gravel and bush tracks, that snakes alongside the Murray River.

Harvey Dam

Distance from Perth: 136km South

There are plenty of tracks which will test the more experienced 4WDriver with a few challenges and hill climbs – and plenty of mud in the winter time!

Brunswick 4×4 Challenge Track

Distance from Perth: 154 km South

A good action packed track with plenty of tricky sections – three river/creek crossings, two massive hills and plenty of tricky short, but very steep hill climbs.

Hill Climbs at Harvey

Distance from Perth: 165km South.

If you’re up for a good challenge up and down very steep rutted out hills, Harvey fire break track will keep you entertained. A few spots on this track in either the dry or the wet will test even the experienced 4WDdriver.

Seabird to Guilderton

Distance from Perth: 100km North

The off road track along the coast from Seabird to Guilderton is an easy 4×4 off road track to explore. It starts from the southern edge of Seabird and ends at the lighthouse in Guilderton.

Wilbinga

Distance from Perth: 70km North.

Wilbinga offers a mixture of off-road tracks and sand dunes. This is the closest area to Perth where you can go beach driving and is located between Two Rocks and Guilderton.

Wedge Island To Grey

Distance from Perth: 165km North

If you are looking for real adventure, this track is 20+ km long and will take you over the sand dunes, onto the beach and on sand tracks.

Lancelin Sand Dunes

Distance from Perth: 127 km North

Lancelin is known for 4WDriving on sand dunes! Plenty of areas to explore and the best thing is the drive changes almost every day after winds changing the formation of the sand dunes.
